More On Behavior Management
- Behavior Intervention Plan: a plan required by Public Law 105-17 for students with disabilities who exhibit problematic behavior; a proactive intervention approach that includes a functional behavioral assessment and the use of positive behavioral supports.
- Functional Behavioral Assessment: a behavioral strategy that seeks to determine the purpose or function that a particular behavior serves - what is occasioning and maintaining the behavior.
- Universal Interventions: interventions that are applied to all students to prevent negative behavior and increase positive behavior.
- Positive Behavioral Support: an alternative approach to punishment; a school-wide, proactive way of addressing problematic behaviors.
- Target Behavior: appropriate behavior that the child should be displaying.
- Token Economy: a form of behavior modification that is designed to increase positive behavior and decrease undesirable behavior by using tokens. Tokens are exchanged for a object or a privilege.
- Contingency Contracts: a type of intervention that creates a contract between a student and a school to outline the benefits and consequences of his or her behaviors.
Reflection:
For this artifact, I used my PBIS module assignment. I re-created it and added the tiers to describe the different levels of enforcing good behavior. I am student teaching in a school that utilizes the PBIS system and the words "Be safe, be respectful, be responsible," are found in the classrooms and around the school, so I added an image I found. Learning more about PBIS for this class has helped me to understand how my school that has PBIS works. A PDF version of this flyer can be downloaded. Additionally, some definitions of other types of behavioral support have been added.
